The Farewell Audition
After a quiet past few weeks, it’s refreshing to see the place buzzing with activity again. Some people have taken seats at some of the tables, the PBR is flowing at the bar, and I’m left trying to find a place to park elsewhere. After finding a space where I wouldn’t get towed and entering the building, I see that our first band has already taken the stage.

Tonight, only 3 bands will get their shot at to compete for grand prize that includes bragging rights, spending cash, recording studio time, and even more. It’s quiet, it’s cool, it’s a little rainy outside, and for the sixth week, it’s time to get this party started. So in the words of The Joker: “here…we…go…”

Sigur Rós @ The Lawn at White River State Park in Indianapolis — Following a several-day heat streak, hundreds of people gathered amongst one another at The Lawn at White River State Park for a night of refreshingly cool weather and captivating music. Icelandic post rock band Sigur Rós was touring the U.S. following the release of their new album, Kveikur. An overcast sky previewed the stage, which was adorned with xylophones, keyboards, percussion sets, and exposed light bulbs.
...some of their most dedicated supporters have taken to dancing to the music and soaking up every bit of their very soulful and heartfelt performance.
SK and Souled Out 7
It’s about 8:30 p.m. on a rather cool night in Indianapolis, and as I step through the doors, all’s quiet on the Northern front. The few in attendance have taken their seats at some of the tables towards the back of the room, conversing amongst their friends and enjoying their drinks, while act #1 finishes last-second preparations. Not too long after, we’re all welcomed and it’s time to get this show on the road.
...it stays dark for more than half of the song, with only a few stage lights and the glow of several thousand phones to light the way while Marcus Mumford continues to serenade the crowd.

Mumford & Sons @ Klipsch Music Center in Indianapolis — The British are coming, and for the people of Indiana, we wouldn’t have it any other way. On this Labor Day, Mumford and Sons came to Klipsch Music Center as part of their latest U.S. tour. Of course, they didn’t come here alone. They also brought along the likes of The Vaccines and Bear’s Den.
WARMfest @ Broad Ripple Park in Indianapolis — Okay, so Day 1 was a literal wash, and despite my disappointment, it was ultimately their call to make, and in the end, I believe they did make the right one. Now it’s a new day, the slate is clean, and I’m determined to make this WARMfest experience something to remember (for better, not for worse).

Rival Sons @ Deluxe at Old National Centre in Indianapolis — Listening to conversations of patrons as they left the venue, it was clear that Rival Sons is capable of keeping old school rock fans very happy and they are in a perfect place to educate a whole new generation on a sound that we hear far too little of in new music.
