Concert Review: The Driver Era

Last week, Everwise Amphitheater in Indianapolis was electric as The Driver Era—brothers Ross and Rocky Lynch—played to a sold-out crowd of 6,000 fans. For many of us who grew up watching Disney Channel, this night was more than a concert—it was a full-circle moment that healed something deep and nostalgic.

After years of watching videos of Ross perform, finally seeing him live felt surreal. Ross Lynch, once the star of Austin & Ally and member of the family band R5, is a familiar name for early 2000s kids. R5, formed in 2009 with Ross, Rocky, and their siblings, disbanded in 2018 when the band rebranded as The Driver Era. Their debut single “Preacher Man” signaled a bold new sound—and it clearly struck a chord, with over 32 million Spotify streams to date.

The show kicked off with the electric “OMG Plz Don’t Come Around” from their 2021 album Girlfriend, instantly igniting the crowd. Fans crushed against the barricade, screaming every word like their lives depended on it. One unexpected highlight for me was “Feel You Now”—a song I hadn’t heard before the show but have had on repeat ever since.

Charismatic frontman of The Drive Era, Ross Lynch, on guitar

Ross was magnetic on stage—charismatic and effortless, with the same energy that made him a teen icon, now matured and more confident than ever. Rocky’s presence brought a steady, cool vibe, his musicianship grounding the show in something real and raw. The production was tight, the energy unmatched, and every moment felt alive.

It wasn’t just a great show—it was unforgettable. The Driver Era didn’t just meet expectations; they blew them out of the water. If every concert felt this powerful, I’d never leave the front row.
