Concert Review: John Mayer — It’s Just Another Shot in the Dark

John Mayer @ Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Indianapolis, IN on October 17th, 2023 — Gainbridge Fieldhouse is the absolute largest concert venue in Indianapolis, and somehow, it felt just as small and intimate as some of the smallest theaters in the city (once you got past the layers of security and hordes of fans). The Pacers’ home court was absolutely full of plush seating arranged in tidy rows and…

Concert Review: Chappell Roan — Two Hours of Peace

Chappell Roan @ The Deluxe at Old National Centre, Indianapolis, IN on October 8th, 2023 — On Sunday night, if one were to descend the steps of Old National into the downstairs Deluxe, they would find the stairs littered with red feathers, presumably shed from a feather boa. This is how they would know they were in the right place: headed to Chappell Roan’s show…

Concert Review: Half Alive — I Find That Everything I Am Is Everything I Should Be

Half Alive featuring Thomas Headon @ The Egyptian Room at Old National Centre, Indianapolis, IN on September 22nd, 2023 — half•alive came onto the stage at 9:00pm sharp to the roaring of the crowd in the Egyptian Room. They opened with “Tip Toes” but, possibly to the surprise of those who hadn’t seen them live before, started with the band hidden behind a large white sheet. For the entirety of the first song…

Concert Review: Disturbed x Breaking Benjamin x Jinjer

Disturbed, Breaking Benjamin & Jinjer @ Ruoff Music Center, Noblesville, IN on September 2nd, 2023 — The crowd at Ruoff was definitely more diverse than I anticipated; there were metalheads of all ages, but there were a surprising number of families, including a several sweet little grandmas. This was probably the most active pit I’ve seen in a while as well. There were the obligatory beach balls, but I think it must have been someone’s birthday as well, as security confiscated multiple balloons. It had been blazing hot all week…

Concert Review: Yellowcard — Follow Me There, A beautiful Somewhere

Yellowcard @ TCU Amphitheater, Indianapolis on August 10th, 2023 — Emo nights are always a treat, but it’s not often you get to experience one on the kind of grand scale we had in Indianapolis at TCU Amphitheater on a, and I don’t say this lightly, perfect August evening. You absolutely positively cannot have better weather or a better crowd for this kind of epic nostalgia fest.

Concert Review: Incubus — And In This Moment, I am Happy

Incubus @ TCU Amphitheater, Indianapolis on July 28th, 2023 — Though Incubus has not released any new albums since 2017’s 8 (with their last EP release being back in 2020), they clearly have a strong and loyal following as shown by the huge turnout at TCU Amphitheater this past Friday.

Concert Review: Fall Out Boy — What Former Emo Kids Do on a Sunday Night

Fall Out Boy & Bring Me The Horizon @ Ruoff Music Center, Noblesville, IN on July 16th, 2023 — I first saw Fall Out Boy in concert when I was 14 and they were just coming off of hiatus a decade ago now. While I will never forget that show, and how much it meant to me to see a band I loved perform after years of being in limbo, I do not think my 14 year old “emo kid” self would have been prepared for the show that I saw tonight.

Concert Review: Death Cab for Cutie — They Will Possess Your Heart

Death Cab for Cutie @ TCU Amphitheater, Indianapolis on May 31st, 2023 — Ben Gibbard and crew made an amazing return to Indianapolis on May 31st  at the TCU Amphitheater, along with special guest Lomelda, on a beautifully rain-cooled evening with one of the most beautiful golden hours we’ve had so far this year.

Concert Review: Highly Suspect — Come Out Where the Music is Playing

Highly Suspect @ Old National Centre’s Egyptian Room on March 3rd, 2023 — As part of their victory lap Blue Weekend tour (which kicked off in the US in fall 2021), Wolf Alice made their way back to The Deluxe in Indianapolis for the first time since 2016. Accompanying the British alt-rockers was Charlie Hickey, an artist so new that his tour predates the release of his debut album, Nervous at Night.
